HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a rate increase request submitted by Buck Hill Water Company (Buck Hill), which serves customers in Monroe County.

The Commission voted 5-0 to suspend the proposed rate increase request to a date no later than November 1, 2019 and to assign the case to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge for corresponding proceedings and the issuance of a recommended decision.

The Buck Hill request, which was submitted on Jan 11, 2019, would increase its total annual operating revenues by approximately $106,458 (34.57 percent).

Under the Buck Hill proposal, the total bill for a typical residential customer using 7,000 gallons per quarter would increase from $207.80 per quarter to $279.64 per quarter, or 34.57 percent.  The typical bill for a commercial customer using 144,000 gallons per quarter would increase from $1,317.50 to $1,772.94 per quarter, or by 34.57 percent.

Buck Hill serves 300 residential water customers in and around the community of Buck Hill Falls, Monroe County, along with 13 commercial customers.

A final decision by the Commission is due by Nov. 1, 2019. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.
