PUC to Convene Working Group Meeting to Discuss Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) will convene a working group meeting to discuss an energy efficiency and conservation (EE&C) program as part of the Commission’s first phase of the implementation of Act 129 of 2008.

As announced in a secretarial letter issued today, Commission staff will convene the Act 129 Working Group meeting on Dec. 10, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the Commission’s Executive Chambers on the third floor of the Commonwealth Keystone Building in Harrisburg.  The purpose of the working group meeting is to provide an informal forum for the discussion of the staff draft plan for the EE&C program and comments received on the plan.

Several interested parties have filed comments on particular aspects of the EE&C program in response to the Commission’s request in October.  Staff will review these comments and release a draft proposal for the implementation of the EE&C program in late November.  Parties are welcome to submit comments and reply comments on the draft plan. 

On Oct. 15, 2008, Gov. Rendell signed HB 2200 into law as Act 129 of 2008.  The Act adds several new sections to, and amends several existing sections of, the Public Utility Code.  In order to comply with the Act in an orderly and efficient manner, the Commission will implement the Act in phases.  The first phase will deal with the Commission’s obligation to adopt an energy efficiency and conservation (EE&C) program by Jan. 15, 2009.
