PUC OKs Lower Rate Increase than Requested by Glendale Yearound Sewer Co

Published on 1/27/2006

HARRISBURG – The Public Utility Commission today approved a settlement that lowers the rate increase originally requested by Glendale Yearound Sewer Company by about $40,300.

The Commission voted unanimously to approve the settlement that increases wastewater rates by $49,951 or about 22 percent. The company originally requested an increase of $90,302 or 38.92 percent.

Under the settlement, the annual bill for an average residential customer would increase by about $55 from $250 to $305. The increase would affect 1,364 customers in White and Chest townships, Cambria County.

The approved increase follows a PUC investigation into the rates requested by the company and their reasonableness. The settlement recognized the ratepayers concerns, minimizes cost-prohibitive litigation and allows the company to remain viable. The previous rates had been in effect since 1997.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
