HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today announced the appointment of Lee B. Tolbert, President of the West Philadelphia Coalition of Neighborhoods, to the PUC’s Consumer Advisory Council.
Tolbert, of Philadelphia, will serve a term that expires in June 2007.
In 1987, Tolbert founded the West Philadelphia Coalition of Neighborhoods and Businesses, a non-profit umbrella organization of over 125 community-based organizations, businesses, churches and institutions.
Tolbert worked with the PUC in 2003 as a member of Philadelphia Gas Works’ consumer advisory committee that focused on ways to educate Philadelphia natural gas customers about utility competition.
Tolbert previously dedicated 25 years of service to his country and the public in the military and as a civilian federal employee.
The Consumer Advisory Council advises the PUC Commissioners on matters related to the protection of consumer interests under the jurisdiction of the PUC.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as stewards of competition.
