HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved the purchase of Saville Rustin Water Co. in Pike County by Pennsylvania-American Water Co. (PAWC).

The Commission voted 4-0 to allow the sale of Saville Rustin to PAWC for $2.4 million. Vice Chairman James Cawley recused. PAWC will maintain the current Saville Rustin rates for those customers through Jan. 1, 2008. The average residential customer using 60,000 gallons of water pays about $300 annually.

Salville Rustin is owned and operated by the Pine Ridge Community Association, serving about 1,002 residential and commercial water customers in Lehman Township, Pike County. PAWC provides water service for more than 616,000 residential, commercial and industrial consumers in 35 counties.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
