Electric Utilities and Electric Grid Managers to Brief PUC on Reliability for this Summer

HARRISBURG – Pennsylvania’s electricity providers and PJM Interconnection will brief the Public Utility Commission (PUC) on their plans to meet the demand for electricity throughout the Commonwealth during the summer months, particularly at peak times.
The briefing will take place at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, in Hearing Room 2 of the Commonwealth Keystone Building.
Topics that will be covered during the meeting include: forecasted load and capacity; vegetation management; inspection practices; environmental considerations; and the plant additions and retirements.
Speakers at the meeting will include:
- John Lawhorn, Director, Regulatory and Economic Studies, Midwest Independent Systems Operator;
- Tom Falin, Manager, Capacity Adequacy, PJM Interconnection;
- J. Michael Love, President and CEO, Energy Association of Pennsylvania; and
- Douglas L. Biden, President, Electric Power Generation Association.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
