HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to approve a settlement for a lower rate than requested by the Little Washington Wastewater Co. Northeast Consolidated – Eagle Rock Division.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the settlement, which was reached among the company, the Office of Consumer Advocate and the PUC’s Office of Trial Staff. Two other formal complainants – the Eagle Rock Community Association and the Eagle Rock Resort Co. – did not join the settlement. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.

The settlement phases in the rate increase over two years. Under the settlement, the monthly bill for an average residential customer using 2,200 gallons will increase by $12.39 (55 percent) from $22.50 to $34.89 a month in the first year.  After the second phase of the company’s increase, the monthly bill will increase by $3.25 (9.31 percent) to $38.14 a month. The company also may not file for a base rate increase for two years.

The settlement also includes some specific terms for customers including establishing a Customer Advisory Board.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
