PUC to Investigate Rate Increase Request for Water, Wastewater Company Serving Parts of Pike County

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a request by Deer Haven Water Co. and Deer Haven Wastewater Co. to increase its rates.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the requests. The requests are suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for public hearings and a recommended decision or settlement. Final decisions must be made by May 18, 2011.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.  

The water company requested to increase water rates by $29,266 (378.1 percent). Under the company’s proposal, the annual bill for an average residential customer will increase from $180 to $864 (380 percent).

The wastewater company requested to increase rates by $40,314 (373.3 percent). Under the company’s proposal, the annual bill for an average residential customer will increase from $240 to $1,140 (375 percent)

The companies serve about 45 customers in portions of Palmyra Township, Pike County.
