PUC Schedules Public Input Hearing on Proposed Increase by Little Washington Wastewater Company - Southeast Consolidated Division

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has scheduled a hearing to receive public comment on the proposed rate increases by Little Washington Wastewater Co. – Southeast Consolidated Division.

Administrative Law Judges Marlane R. Chestnut and Christopher P. Pell will conduct the telephonic public input hearing:

If you wish to testify at the telephonic public input hearing, you must contact the Office of Consumer Advocate (OCA) before Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, 5:00 p.m., to provide your name, telephone number, and the topic of your testimony.  You may call the OCA toll free at 1-800-684-6560.  Beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, customers will testify in the order they signed up.  Any persons that have not contacted the Office of Consumer Advocate by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, will not be able to participate in the telephonic public input hearings.

On Dec. 16, 2010, the Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request. A final decision must be made by Aug. 1, 2011.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.  

Little Washington - Southeast Consolidated Division has requested an increase in annual rates of $1,078,436 (32.3 percent).  As part of the company’s proposal, the monthly bill for an average residential customer would change as follows:

• $49.56 to $54.18 (9.38 percent) for customers using 3,220 gallons per month in the Willistown Woods/Chesterdale Division
• $95.14 to $108.37 (13.89 percent) for customers using 3,400 gallons per month in the Greens at Penn Oaks Division
• $17.23 to $27.05 (57 percent) for customers using 3,800 gallons per month in the Media Division
• $66.67 to $90 for unmetered customers in the New Daleville Division
• $100.34 to $165.79 (65.25 percent) for customers using 6,900 gallons per month in Newlin Green
• $92.75 to $105 (13.21 percent) for customers using 5,000 gallons per month in the Little Washington Division
• $54.74 to $69.08 (26.2 percent) for customers using 6,900 gallons per month in the Twin Hills Division
• $71.33 to $79.68 (11.7 percent) for customers using 4,700 gallons per month in the Peddlers View Division

Little Washington – Southeast Consolidated Division provides wastewater service to 4,349 customers in Chester County.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the hearings and provide comments.  Customer testimony will become part of the record on which the PUC will issue its final decision. The PUC and state Office of Consumer Advocate offer tips on how to participate.  They include:

• Prepare what you are going to say beforehand.  Even though it is not required, you may want to write out your statement, which can be read.
• Plan to be questioned.  Parties in the case may want to ask you a question to clarify something you said.
