PUC to Investigate Rate Increase Request by City of Lancaster Wastewater Co.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC or Commission) today voted to investigate a proposed wastewater rate increase by the City of Lancaster (company).

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request, which proposes an annual increase of revenues to $551,609 (54.4 percent). The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision or settlement. The Commission only has jurisdiction for rates and service over those customers who live outside the city and are serviced by City of Lancaster.

Under the company’s proposal, the annual bill for the average residential customer using 52,000 gallons a year would increase $100.08 from $152.12 to $252.20 (65.8 percent). 

The City of Lancaster provides wastewater service to approximately 3,100 residents outside the city.
