PUC Approves Lower Rate Increase than Requested for Butler County Natural Gas Co.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to approve a lower rate increase request than requested by Herman Riemer Gas Co. 

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve a settlement for an annual increase in rates of $205,000 (39.2 percent).  The company had originally proposed an increase in annual rates of $405,202 (77.5 percent).  Chairman Robert F. Powelson also issued a motion.

Under the terms of the settlement, the monthly bill for the average residential customer using 6.25 Mcf per month will increase $23.87 (39 percent) from $61.14 to $85.01. 

Under the company’s original proposal, the monthly bill for the average residential customer using 6.25 Mcf per month would have increased $46.38 (75.8 percent) from $61.14 to $107.52.

Herman Riemer Gas Co. provides natural gas service to approximately 590 residential customers in Butler County.
