HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate the City of Lancaster – Bureau of Water’s request for an annual $6,458,300 (45.8 percent) rate increase for water service to its outside-city customers.
The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request for up to seven months. The request is suspended and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the PUC’s website. The Commission must issue a final decision by March 15, 2015.
Under the city’s proposal, the average annual residential bill for customers using 13,000 gallons per quarter would increase from $58.94 to $83.76 (42.1 percent). The rate increase would affect approximately 27,000 residential customers outside of the city.
