HARRISBURG – Commissioners and consumer outreach staff from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) will join other agencies and public officials for a pair of consumer education events in Pittsburgh.
The “What’s up with my water?” events, organized by State Senator Jay Costa, are scheduled for the following times and locations:
Tuesday, August 28 - 1 p.m.
IBEW #5
5 Hot Metal St.
Pittsburgh, PA 15203
Tuesday, August 28 - 6 p.m.
Jewish Community Center – Squirrel Hill
Levinson Room B
5738 Forbes Ave.
Pittsburgh, PA 15217
PUC Chairman Gladys M. Brown, Vice Chairman Andrew G. Place and Commissioner Norman J. Kennard are scheduled to join Senator Costa to discuss the PUC’s oversight responsibilities regarding water and sewer service issues. Staff from the PUC’s Bureau of Consumer Services will also be available at the events, as will community outreach and education specialists from the PUC. Consumers interested in water and sewer service issues are encouraged to attend and join in the conversation.
The PUC noted that individuals who wish to comment on the rate increase requests recently submitted by the Pittsburgh Water & Sewer Authority (PWSA) should plan to attend one of four upcoming public input hearings on the PWSA proposal. Those hearings are scheduled for Sept. 4, 5 and 6, at various locations in Pittsburgh, specifically to gather formal testimony from consumers and others concerned about the PWSA water and sewer service rates.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities; ensures safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protects the public interest; educates consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; furthers economic development; and fosters new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
