Harrisburg, Pa. - The Public Utility Commission has scheduled hearings at three locations to receive public comment on the request of PG Energy, Inc., Wilkes-Barre, for a $15 million (8.25 percent) annual increase in base rates.

Administrative Law Judge Richard M. Lovenwirth will conduct the hearings in:

    - Scranton on June 29 at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, Room 104, at Marywood University, 2300 Adams Ave.

    - Shavertown on June 30 at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Kingstown Township Municipal Building, 180 Center St.

    - Williamsport on July 2 at 1 p.m. in the second floor council chambers of City Hall, 245 West Fourth St.

Customer testimony will become part of the record on which the Commission will base its decision in the case.

Under the company’s proposal, average annual residential heating bills would go from $940 to $1,046, based on usage of 114,000 cubic feet of gas. PG Energy said the $15 million base rate increase is needed to cover the increased costs of providing service and to earn a reasonable return on investment.

The company serves 147,016 customers in 13 northeastern and central counties.
