PUC Offers Alternative Rate Relief to Kaylor Gas

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to allow Kaylor Gas Distribution in Armstrong County to raise rates on five days’ notice if a requested $38,495 (35 percent) annual increase is reduced to $33,094 (30 percent).

Under the PUC recommendation, average residential bills would increase $114 annually, from $761 to $875.

If Kaylor Gas refuses to accept the PUC’s figure, the case will be suspended for up to seven months from its March 1, 1999, proposed effective date and assigned to a PUC administrative law judge for a recommended decision.

The company said the increase is needed to recover increased operating expenses and to earn a reasonable rate of return on plant investment. Rates were last raised in 1989.

There were no protests to the requested increase.

Kaylor provides service to 122 customers in the Village of Kaylor and Bradys Bend Township, Armstrong County. Kaylor is owned by Nido’s Ltd.
