PUC Suspends Request for Rate Increase by Honesdale Gas Company

    HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend for investigation the request of the Honesdale Gas Company for a $429,312 (14.66 percent) rate increase.

    Under the company’s proposal, the average annual residential bill for customers using 11,000 cubic feet of gas per month would increase $7.66, from $70.86 to $78.52.

    The proposed increase will be suspended for up to seven months from its October 16, 1999, proposed effective date and assigned to a PUC administrative law judge for a recommended decision.

    The company said the increase is needed to recover current operational and maintenance expenses. Rates were last raised in August 1989.

    Honesdale provides service to approximately 2,700 residential customers in the Honesdale, Hawley and Milford areas.
