HARRISBURG – The Public Utility Commission (PUC), the Department of State and the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), will present a program commemorating Black History Month on Tuesday, Feb. 8, beginning at noon in the Auditorium of the State Museum, North and Third streets, Harrisburg.  The program is free and open to the public.

This year’s theme, “Giants Come Home,” pays tribute to the efforts of the Harrisburg Giants, a Negro Baseball League team founded in 1890 that became one of the first integrated teams in a segregated league.  Members of the team from the mid-1950s will be participating in the event and available for questions and autographs.

PUC Chairman Wendell F. Holland, Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortes and DCED Secretary Dennis Yablonsky will speak.  The keynote address will be presented by Calobe Jackson, historian and president of the Harrisburg Public School Board.

Entertainment will be provided by area vocalist Diane Wilson, the Central Dauphin High School Steppers and the Hamilton School Chorus.
