PUC Approves License for Enspire Energy to Provide Natural Gas to Large Customers

Published on 3/2/2006

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved Enspire Energy LLC as a natural gas supplier for large commercial, industrial and government consumers in western Pennsylvania.

“It’s encouraging that another natural gas supplier is interested in entering the Pennsylvania market by providing supplies for commercial, industrial and government consumers,” said Commission Chairman Wendell F. Holland. “Providing opportunities for these customers to shop for natural gas translates into cost savings that can be passed on to the community as a whole.”

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the license for the Norfolk, Va., based company to begin providing natural gas supply service in the service territories of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and Equitable Gas Co.

Pennsylvania natural gas consumers have the right to choose who their natural gas supplier from those who are licensed to do so within their service territory.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as responsible stewards of competition.
