HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved the purchase of the Pennsylvania-American Water Co. (PAWC) purchase of the Community Association of Pocono Farms and Lexington Woods Corp. water systems in Monroe County.

The Commission unanimously voted to allow the sales. PAWC will pay $2.3 million for the Association’s water system. PAWC will bill all metered customers a monthly service charge of about $17, but maintain the current volumetric rates. The Association currently serves about 1,340 residential and commercial water customers in Coolbaugh Township.

PAWC will pay $150,000 for the Lexington Woods water system. PAWC will bill unmetered customers about $455 a year, an increase of $119. The company plans to install water meters within 90 days and begin charging metered rates. A current metered customer using 60,000 gallons a year pays about $482. Lexington Woods serves about 55 customers in Coolbaugh Township.

PAWC provides water service for more than 2 million residential, commercial and industrial consumers in 35 counties.
