PUC Approves Rate Settlement with Meadows Sewer Company

Published on 4/6/2006

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a settlement that will allow Meadows Sewer Company to increase wastewater rates by $23,800.

The Commission voted to approve the settlement that increases rates by $23,800 or 12.3 percent. The company originally requested an increase of $55,465 or 28.6 percent.

Under the settlement, the annual bill for an average residential customer would increase by approximately $11 from $89 to $100. The increase would affect 252 customers in a portion of Middlesex Township, Cumberland County.

The approved increase follows a PUC investigation into the rates requested by the company and their reasonableness. The settlement recognized the ratepayer concerns, minimizes cost-prohibitive litigation and allows the company to remain viable.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as stewards of competition.
