Published on 5/4/2006
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined Sun Coach Lines Inc. of McKeesport, Allegheny County $2,000 for two violations of offering service without holding proper approvals by the PUC.
The PUC’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety filed the complaint against the company on Feb. 16, 2006, alleging that Sun Coach Lines Inc. provided service on June 6 and July 22, 2005 for compensation, without PUC approval. The company had 20 days to respond to the complaint or the fine would be imposed. The PUC did not receive a response during that time.
By law, companies are required to hold a certificate of public convenience from the PUC in order to transport property, passengers or household goods within the state. Holding a certificate of public convenience ensures that the company has met all of the PUC’s safety and insurance standards.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as stewards of competition.
