PUC Fines J&E Transportation Service LLC

Published on 9/15/2006

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined J&E Transportation Service LLC., of Lancaster County, $2,000 for operating its vehicles without a certificate of public convenience.

The PUC’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety filed a complaint against the company on June 15, 2006, alleging that J&E Transportation provided service on March 13 and 20, 2006 for compensation, without having proper PUC authority. The company had 20 days to respond to the complaint or the fine would be imposed. The PUC did not receive a response to the complaint.

By law, companies are required to hold a certificate of public convenience from the PUC in order to transport property, passengers or household goods within the state. Holding a certificate of public convenience ensures that the company has met all of the PUC’s safety and insurance standards.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission ensures safe, reliable and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, water, telephone and transportation service for Pennsylvania consumers, by regulating public utilities and by serving as stewards of competition.
