PUC Fines Classic Coach $2,000 for Violations

HARRISBURG – The Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined Classic Coach Ltd., of Coraopolis, Allegheny County, $2,000 for offering to provide service without Commission approval.

On Nov. 18, 2003, the Commission’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety filed a complaint alleging that the company transported persons in a limousine with a suspended certificate of public convenience from the Commission.  The certificate was suspended for failure to maintain evidence of insurance with the Commission.

By law, companies are required to hold a certificate of public convenience from the PUC in order to transport property, passengers or household goods within the state. Holding a certificate of public convenience ensures that the company has met all of the PUC’s safety and insurance standards.

The company had 30 days to respond to respond to the complaint or the recommended fine of $2,000 would be imposed. The PUC did not receive a response during that time. The company is also ordered to cease and desist from all further violations of the Public Utility Code or Commission regulations.
