PUC Fines Luzerne County Moving Company $3,000 for Violations

Published on 9/13/2007

HARRISBURG –The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined AVP Transport Inc. of Forty Fort, Luzerne County, $3,000 for transporting property without Commission authority.

On May 9, 2007, the Commission’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety filed a complaint alleging that the company used three vehicles to transport property for compensation while not holding a certificate of public convenience. The company was issued a certificate of public convenience on April 22, 1998, but it was cancelled Oct. 13, 2003 for failure to maintain evidence of property damage liability insurance with the Commission.

The company had 20 days to respond to the complaint or the recommended fine of $3,000 would be imposed.  The PUC did not receive a response during that time. The company also is ordered to cease and desist from all further violations.

The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities to ensure safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protect the public interest; educate consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; further economic development; and foster new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
