PUC Approves Settlement for Lower Rate Increase than Requested for Pike County Light & Power Co.

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a settlement for a lower distribution rate increase than requested by Pike County Light & Power Company (PCL&P).  

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve a motion by Chairman James H. Cawley to approve the settlement, permitting PCL&P to increase rates by about $855,000.  The monthly bill of a typical residential customer using 660 kWh per month will increase $12.15 from $109.15 to $121.30 (11.1 percent). 

The company originally requested an increase of $15.90 (14.5 percent).  The settlement was reached among the company, the PUC’s Office of Trial Staff, the Office of Consumer Advocate and the Office of Small Business Advocate.  The increase will become effective April 1, 2009. 

Under the settlement the company will not file for a new distribution rate increase prior to April 1, 2010.  The increase will affect about 4,600 residential, commercial and industrial customers in Pike County.
