HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a settlement with Clarion County Taxi Inc. that included a $5,000 civil penalty.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the settlement which was reached between the company and the PUC’s independent prosecutory staff.

Prosecutory staff alleged the company violated the Public Utility Code and PUC regulations by failing to bill the state’s Department of Public Welfare in accordance to the rates that were on file with the Commission.

Specifically, the staff alleged that from Sept. 14, 2009, through Jan. 14, 2010, the company charged a different price more than 40 times. The overcharges ranged from $1.50 to $42.55 and included six instances of a $20 “no-show” charge. The total collected overcharges amounted to $328.20. On four occasions, the company undercharged customers ranging from $1.65 to $7.45. The undercharges amounted to $20.10.
