HARRISBURG –The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to investigate a proposed rate increase by City of DuBois Bureau of Water (City), for customers living outside the city limits, who receive water service from the city.
The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request, which proposes an annual increase in revenues of $490,734 (97.3 percent). The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.
Under the city’s proposal, the total annual bill for a typical metered residential customer using 48,000 gallons of water a year would increase a total of $226.20, from $225 to $451.20 (100.5 percent).
The City of DuBois Bureau of Water provides water service to approximately 690 customers in Clearfield County, who reside outside the city’s limits. The city also provides water service to 3,802 customers located inside the city’s limits, who are not subject to Commission jurisdiction.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities; ensures safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protects the public interest; educates consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; furthers economic development; and fosters new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
