HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to approve a joint settlement allowing a lower increase in annual rates than originally requested for Cooperstown Water Co. (Cooperstown), Venango County.

The Commission voted 5-0 to approve the joint settlement that was reached among the company, the PUC’s Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement and the Office of Consumer Advocate which was resolved through mediation.  The settlement allows an increase in annual rates of $6,000 (11.55 percent) in lieu of the $10,636 (20.5 percent) increase originally requested.

Under the presently suspended Supplement No. 23, the monthly cost of water service to a typical residential customer using 3,000 gallons per month would have increased by approximately $6.35 (20.48 percent), from $31.01 to $37.36.  Under the Joint Petition, the monthly cost of water service to such residential customer would increase by approximately $3.58 (11.54 percent), from $31.01 to $34.59.

Additionally, Cooperstown agrees not to file for another general rate increase for 18 months after Commission approval of the settlement.

Cooperstown provides service to approximately 129 customers in the Borough of Cooperstown and Jackson Township, Venango County.
