PUC Press Conference to Highlight National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Emphasize Importance of Industry Collaboration and Information Sharing

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) will highlight National Cybersecurity Awareness Month at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, in a press conference uniting other state and federal government agencies, utility companies and law enforcement.

PUC, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Pennsylvania Office of Administration, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security, the South Central PA Task Force, UGI Utilities Inc., Pennsylvania American Water, Verizon Pennsylvania and PPL Electric Utilities.

Gov. Tom Wolf proclaimed October 2015 Cybersecurity Awareness Month in Pennsylvania.
The theme of the event will be the importance of collaboration among government agencies, businesses and consumers to ensure that both sensitive information and critical infrastructure are protected from cyber-attacks.
The PUC also will release the second edition of its Cybersecurity Best Practices for Small and Medium Pennsylvania Utilities, which will be available at the press conference Thursday.
