PUC Approves Lower Than Requested Rate Increase for Elverson Water Company in Chester County

Published on 3/2/2023

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a smaller than requested increase in rates for the Elverson Water Company (Elverson Water), which serves approximately 660 residents and businesses in Elverson Borough, along with portions of West Nantmeal, East Nantmeal, and Warwick townships in Chester County.

The Commission voted 5-0 today to authorize an annual revenue increase of operating revenues of $26,201 (14.05%).  This is a substantial reduction from the initial proposal filed by Elverson Water, which requested an annual increase of $41,031 (22%).

Based on today’s action by the PUC, the average annual bill for a residential customer (with a ¾ inch meter and usage of 9,000 gallons per quarter) would increase from $242.40 to $276.45 (14.04%). Under Elverson Water’s initial request, that same residential customer bill would have increased from $242.40 to $294.80 (21.6%).

The PUC’s order directs Elverson Water Company to file a tariff or tariff supplement within 10 days of the entry date for this order, containing proposed changes in rate calculation that would generate the increase in annual revenues approved today by the Commission.
