Proposed Rate Increase Suspended Until October 2024 for Detailed Analysis and Review

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today suspended a rate increase request for natural gas distribution service by Kaib and Kaib LLC (Kaib and Kaib) to allow for a detailed investigation and analysis.

Kaib and Kaib serves approximately 50 customers in portions of Jefferson County.

The Commission voted 5-0 to suspend the proposed rate increase, which would increase the company’s total annual operating revenues for natural gas distribution service by approximately $29,488 (67.8%).

Today’s action by the Commission suspends the rate change request for up to seven months, and the case will now be assigned to the PUC’s Office of Administrative Law Judge for an investigation, the scheduling of hearings and the issuance of a recommended decision.

Kaib and Kaib Rate Increase Request

Under the proposal filed with the PUC by Kaib and Kaib, the average bill for a residential customer using 12.5 Mcf of natural gas would increase from $73.48 to $123.24 (67.71%) per month.

A final decision by the PUC on the rate increase request is due by October 15, 2024. More information on the ratemaking process is available on the PUC’s website.
