HARRISBURG  – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend and investigate a proposed rate increase by The York Water Co. (York Water), York County, for its water and wastewater service.

The Commission voted 5-0 to investigate the request, which proposes an annual increase for York Water’s total annual operating revenues for water service by approximately $6.4 million (13.1 percent), and for wastewater service by $288,623 (25 percent).

Under the company’s proposal, the typical monthly water bill for residential gravity customers using 4,600 gallons of water per month would increase from $37.78 to $41.84 per month, or by 10.7 percent.  The typical water bill for residential repumped customers using 3,699 gallons of water per month would increase from $44.72 to $49.11 per month, or by 9.8 percent.

Additionally, under the company’s proposal the typical wastewater bill for residential customers would increase by 25 percent, as follows:  for customers in Asbury Pointe Subdivision, from $50.00 to $62.50 per month; for customers in East Prospect Borough and Lower Windsor Area using 4,874 gallons of water per month, from $51.75 to $64.69; and for customers in West York Borough Area from $26.17 to $32.71 per month per dwelling unit.

The request is suspended for up to seven months and will be assigned to the Office of Administrative Law Judge for a recommended decision or settlement.  A final decision by the Commission is due by March 1, 2019.  More information on the ratemaking process is available on the Commission’s website.
