PUC Approves Plan for PA-American Water to Purchase Borough of Koppel Water System

    HARRISBURG, Pa - The Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved the application of Pennsylvania-American Water Company to purchase the Borough of Koppel Water System in Beaver County.

    Pennsylvania-American will buy the system for approximately $750,000. The company is interconnected to the borough’s system and will provide service to 399 residential customers. Rates for an average customer using 5,000 gallons of water per month will increase approximately $7.65, from $23.55 to $31.20.

    Within six months, Pennsylvania-American will replace 9,400 feet of iron mains, install new encoder meters, repair the meter building and other modifications at an estimated cost of $240,000.

    Hershey-based Pennsylvania American serves 537,924 customers in 31 counties across the state.
