HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission today approved a settlement that will allow York Water Company in York County to increase rates by $927,472 (5.3 percent). The settlement specified $651,000 in annual operating revenues before the roll in of the Distribution System Improvement Charge (DSIC) and State Tax Adjustment Surcharge (STAS) of $276,472. The company had originally asked for a $1,535,946 (10.3 percent) increase in an April filing.

Under the settlement, average residential bills for gravity service will increase approximately $8 annually, from $217 to $225, based on 53,000 gallons of water used per year. Rates for residential customers receiving repumped service will increase about $10 per year, from $270 to $280, based on 48,000 gallons per year.

Parties to the settlement included the company, Office of Consumer Advocate, Office of Small Business Advocate and three individual residential customers. PUC Administrative Law Judge Herbert S. Cohen recommended its approval.

On May 21, 1999, the PUC suspended the company’s filing for investigation. A public input hearing was held on July 19, 1999, in York Water’s service territory.

York Water serves 41,863 residential customers in York County
