HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Public Utility Commission (PUC) has scheduled a public input hearing to receive comment on the request of the York Water Company for a $1.5 million (10.3 percent) annual increase in water rates.
Administrative Law Judge Herbert Cohen will conduct the session in York on Monday, July 19, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at the Edgar Fahs Smith Middle School, 701 Texas Avenue.
Customer testimony will become part of the record on which the PUC will base its decision in the case. Under the companys proposal, average residential bills for gravity service would increase $22 a year, from $206 to $228, based on 60,000 gallons of water used. Rates for residential customers receiving repumped service would increase $28, from $273 to $301.
The company filed its application on April 22. The PUC suspended the request on May 21 and assigned it to a PUC administrative law judge for investigation and a recommended decision. The PUC must rule on the request within nine months of the application date.
York Water provides service to approximately 47,000 customers in York County.
