HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) approved a settlement today that will allow Corner Water Supply and Service Corporation to increase rates by $29,911 (10.8 percent). The company had originally requested a $60,359 (21.80 percent) increase.

Under the settlement, an average residential bill will increase approximately $42 a year, from $368 to $410 based on 50,000 gallons per year. Corner Water Supply and Service serves 522 metered residential customers, which includes 61 commercial customers in Paint and Elk townships, Clarion County.

As part of the settlement, the company has 10 days to file an amended tariff supplement to include the lesser increase, which will go into effect on five days notice. If the company fails to accept the PUC recommendation, the proposed increase will be suspended for up to seven months from its July 14, 2000, proposed effective date and assigned to a PUC administrative law judge for a recommended decision.

The company filed its rate request on April 27, 2000, and the PUC staff adjusted its request.
