HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) approved today a request that will allow Joel K. Hart Sewer Company to increase rates by $4,080 (26.32 percent), affecting 34 residential customers in Mifflin Township, Lycoming County.

Under the company’s proposal, an average residential sewage bill will increase approximately $120 a year, from $456 to $576. The last rate increase was July 1, 1992.

The proposed effective date is August 1, 2000. One complaint was filed against the proposed rates.

The company said it needs to raise rates to replace aging equipment.
