HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved the request of the Borough of Indiana for a $148,959 annual increase in sewer rates for customers living outside the borough limits. The proposal would increase rates $155,179 for residents inside the borough for a total increase of $304,138 (25.50 percent).

Under the company’s proposal, an average residential sewage bill would increase approximately $24 a year, from $89 to $113.

The proposed increase will become effective February 19, 2000.

The company said it needs to raise rates to recover increased operating expenses and to make capital improvements.

The Borough of Indiana serves 5,538 unmetered residential customers in Indiana County.
