PUC Suspends Request for Rate Change By Blue Knob Sewer

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today suspended for investigation the request of Blue Knob Sewer Company for an annual $136,179 (338.58 percent) increase in sewer rates.

Under the company’s proposal, an average residential sewage bill would increase approximately $485 a year, from $235 to $720. Blue Knob Sewer Company serves 237 residential customers and eight commercial customers in Blair and Bedford counties.

The proposed increase will be suspended for up to seven months from its July 14, 2000, proposed effective date and assigned to a PUC administrative law judge for a recommended decision.

The company does not process the waste any longer. It is now done by the Greenfield Township Municipal Authority and the charge is $11,000 per month. Formal protests were filed.
