HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today suspended for investigation the request of Blue Knob Water Company for a $28,575 (72.01 percent) annual increase in rates.

Under the company’s proposal an average residential bill would increase approximately $339 a year, from $483 to $822 based on 60,000 gallons of water used. The increase would affect 251 residential customers and 16 commercial customers in Blair and Bedford counties.

The proposed increase will be suspended for up to seven months from its July 14, 2000, proposed effective date and assigned to a PUC administrative law judge for a recommended decision or settlement.

The company said it needs to increase rates to recover losses of providing water to customers over the last eight years of business. Formal complaints have been filed.
