HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Public Utility Commission (PUC) has scheduled three hearings to receive public comment on the request of Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) for a $65 million (9.4 percent) general rate increase.

If approved, the average residential heating customer using 10,000 cubic feet of gas per month would see their bill increase from $144 to $150.

The proposed increase will be suspended for up to seven months from its March 6, 2001, proposed effective date and assigned to a PUC administrative law judge for a recommended decision.

Administrative Law Judge Cynthia W. Fordham will conduct hearings in:

  • Philadelphia on Wednesday, March 28 at 2 and 7 p.m. in the Double Tree Hotel, Broad and Locust Streets
  • Philadelphia on Thursday, March 29 at 6 p.m. in the Double Tree Hotel, 9461 Roosevelt Boulevard

Customer testimony will become part of the record on which the PUC will base its decision in the case. Any person can testify at the hearings. You do not have to sign up in advance.
