PUC Approves Fare Increase for Jeannette Emergency Management Service

Published on 11/30/2001

HARRISBURG - The Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved fare increases for Jeannette Emergency Management Service (EMS) to provide paratransit service in the City of Jeannette, Westmoreland County and to other points in Pennsylvania.

The average flat rate for a trip up to 10 miles will increase $5 from $15 to $20 per passenger on a one-way trip. The mileage rate beyond the 10-mile flat charge will increase from $1 to $1.25. A 15-mile trip will increase from $20 to $26.25. The company last increased rates in June 1999.

The company said that the fare increase was necessary to maintain and purchase equipment, and for increased salaries to the emergency medical technicians needed to transport the patients.

The paratransit service is limited to transportation of persons who are non-ambulatory, or persons who, due to chronic or acute physical or mental conditions, require pre-trip preparation. All services are provided by state-certified emergency medical technicians in modified vehicles capable of handling wheelchairs.
