HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Public Utility Commission (PUC) today allowed Rainbow Cab to increase fares for transporting taxicab and paratransit passengers in Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.

The company, accepting the fares recommended by the PUC’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety, will increase taxicab fares 15 cents from $1.50 to $1.65 for the first one-sixth of a mile and 30 cents for each additional one-sixth of a mile. Overall, the first mile will increase from $2.75 to $3.15 and the second mile will increase from $1.50 to $1.80. An average three-mile trip will cost $6.75

At the same time, paratransit fares will increase a flat 10 percent above the current charges that are in effect.

The company said that the fare increase is necessary to cover day to day increased costs of doing business such as fuel, maintenance and repairs.
