HARRISBURG, Pa. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has approved a request by Commonwealth Telephone Company to increase rates $43,396 in Dushore and Montrose by reclassifying the phone exchanges. A telephone company can reclassify an exchange to a higher rate group when the number of customers in the exchange exceeds the rate group limitations.

Under the company’s proposal, the average monthly residential bill for customers in Dushore would increase 25 cents, from $8.41 to $8.66.

The average monthly residential bill for customers in Montrose would increase 30 cents, from $8.66 to $8.96.

The rate increase would affect approximately 1,753 residential customers and 373 business customers in Dushore, Sullivan County, and 3,099 residential customers and 1,311 business customers in Montrose, Susquehanna County.

The proposed increase will become effective on February 1, 2001.
