HARRISBURG, Pa. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved the application of Pennsylvania-American Water Company to purchase Fox Knoll Water Company. Fox Knoll serves 17 residential customers in East Pikeland Township, Chester County.
Pennsylvania-American will buy the water system for approximately $60,000 and will spend about $137,000 in improvements. The improvements include replacing the distribution system, service line and meters and adding two public fire hydrants. Pennsylvania-American will continue to charge Fox Knolls current rates for water service.
Fox Knoll has previously been cited by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for compliance problems regarding water quality, including failure to perform testing in a timely manner and for overdosing the system with a corrosion control chemical.
Pennsylvanian-American assumed management and operation responsibilities of Fox Knoll through a management service agreement in October 2000. It then took steps to improve the water system by financing and installing an interconnection between Citizens Utilities Water Company of Pennsylvania and Fox Knoll, which allowed Fox Knolls well to be removed from service and abandoned. On January 24, 2001, the PUC approved Pennsylvania-Americans acquisition of Citizens Utilities.
Hershey-based Pennsylvania-American serves two million customers in 290 communities across the state.
