HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has approved a settlement that will allow the Tri-Valley Water Supply to increase water rates by $4,234 (11.47 percent).

The company had requested a $6,546 (17.3 percent) annual rate increase.

Under the settlement the average residential bill will increase approximately $10 per quarter from $81 to $91 quarterly based on 8,900 gallons of water used. The increase will affect 114 residential customers in the development of El-Do Lake, Polk Township, Monroe County. Vacant lot owners will pay a $6 availability charge per quarter.

The proposed increase will become effective on one day’s notice after the Commission’s order is officially entered. Administrative Law Judge Robert A. Christianson recommended on Aug. 28, 2001, that the settlement be approved.

The company said it needs to raise rates to continue to provide safe and adequate service. The company’s last approved rate increase was in 1997.
