HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today approved a settlement that will allow Joel K. Hart Sewer Company to increase rates by $3,675 (24 percent), affecting 34 residential customers in Mifflin Township, Lycoming County.

Under the settlement, the bill for an average residential customer will increase $108 a year, from $456 to $564 based on 54,000 gallons of water used. The company had proposed to increase rates by $120 a year. The last rate increase was July 1, 1992.

The company can implement the new sewer rates on one days notice following the commissions approval.

The company said it needs to raise rates to replace aging equipment.
