PUC Fines Washington County Company $1,250 for Violations

Published on 10/25/2001

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today fined a Washington County company $1,250 for two violations of offering service without holding a certificate of public convenience issued by the PUC.

In August, the PUC’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety instituted a complaint and recommended a fine of $1,250 for the violations against Charles and Michele Tyhonas of Coal Center. The company had 20 days to respond to the complaint or the fine would be imposed. The PUC did not receive a response during that time.

On June 13, 2001, the company twice transported coal and mill slag for compensation between two points in Pennsylvania without holding a certificate of public convenience. Because Charles and Michele Tyhonas do not have a PUC certificate of public convenience, the company was fined $500 for the first violation, and $750 for the second violation.
