PUC Fines Yellow Cab Company of Pittsburgh $1,250 for Violations

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has fined a Pittsburgh cab company $1,250 for four violations, including failure to comply with the company’s certificate of public convenience by offering service from a different territory than authorized by the PUC.

In March, the PUC’s Bureau of Transportation and Safety instituted a complaint and suggested a fine of $1,250 against the Yellow Cab Company of Pittsburgh for the violations. The company had 30 days to respond to the complaint or the fine would be imposed. The PUC did not receive a response during that time.

Yellow Cab Company’s violations included failure to:

  • Provide the transportation service requested by a customer.
  • Have direct communication between the leased driver’s vehicle and the dispatcher to ensure service to the public.
  • Furnish and maintain adequate, efficient and reasonable service.

The company is authorized to provide service in Pittsburgh but had transported customers from Latrobe to Johnstown and from Hopewell Township to Monaca.

If the Yellow Cab Company violates PUC regulations in the future, the company’s certificate of public convenience may be suspended or revoked.
