HARRISBURG, Pa. - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today voted to suspend and investigate the request of Jackson Sewer Corporation for an annual increase in sewer rates. The proposal would increase rates $121,832 (201 percent) for customers.

Under the company’s proposal, an average residential sewage bill would increase approximately $628 a year, from $312 to $940. The sum of the rate increase is a $240 collection fee and the Jackson Township Sewer Authority treatment fee of $700.

The proposed increase will be suspended for up to seven months from its January 22, 2001, proposed effective date and assigned to a PUC administrative law judge for a recommended decision.

The company wants to pass through to customers charges relating to treatment of the sewage by the Jackson Township Sewer Authority. Formal protests were filed.

Jackson Sever Corporation serves 193 residential customers and one commercial customer in Red Lion, York County.
